Inner Loop
The Inner Loop North Transformation Project
With the help of our experienced volunteers, Hinge created a general plan as a tool for residents to use to influence the design of land uses and streets. This plan has and will be detailed by neighbors and businesses as the Inner Loop infill project moves through funding and construction.
Rochester’s 16th Ward has a scant 10% homeowner population and is subject to absentee landlords, many from other states and countries. There is a concentration of poverty and isolation in this area, and many neighbors have no trust in projects suggested by the city. A resident told us, “Our shops left, downtown died, and we have no place to shop without driving. We don’t even have a walkable laundromat.”
We believe that the community should have a say in what is happening with a transportation project that will intensely affect our neighborhoods. By actively talking to our community, bringing events to our neighbors, and helping verbalize ideas and changes, we have created a plan to make the transformation work for us.
