Rochester Receives $100 Million Grant to Reconnect Our City!

We are thrilled to announce that the City of Rochester has been awarded a $100 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Reconnecting Communities Project. This funding will finally make the completion of the Inner Loop North Transformation a reality.

This project represents a significant step towards healing the wounds inflicted upon our city by the original construction of the Inner Loop. The elevated highway severed neighborhoods and created a physical and social barrier. Removing the highway and replacing it with a vibrant, walkable corridor will reconnect communities, revitalize downtown, and create a more equitable and inclusive city for all.

A Decade in the Making

This victory culminates years of tireless advocacy by our community, elected officials, and dedicated organizations like Hinge Neighbors. We extend our deepest gratitude to:

  • Senator Schumer, Senator Gillibrand, and Congressman Morelle: Thank you for your unwavering leadership and tireless efforts in securing this critical funding.

  • Mayor Malik D. Evans: For his vision and commitment to this transformative project.

  • All elected officials: For their unwavering support and dedication to reconnecting our city.

What This Means for Rochester

  • Reconnected Communities: The Inner Loop North Transformation will break down the barriers that have isolated neighborhoods for decades, fostering stronger connections and more significant opportunities for all residents.

  • Revitalized Downtown: The project will unlock downtown Rochester's potential by creating new spaces for businesses, housing, and greenery.

  • Economic Growth: This investment will stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and attract new businesses to our city.

  • A More Equitable Future: The Inner Loop North Transformation will help address the past injustices and create a more equitable and inclusive future for all Rochesterians.

Next Steps

We are committed to working closely with the City of Rochester, community stakeholders, and all involved to ensure this project is implemented effectively and thoughtfully. We will prioritize community engagement throughout the process, ensuring that the voices of all residents are heard.

This is a momentous occasion for Rochester. Let us celebrate this victory and work together to build a brighter future for our city!
